Our former home, what can you say about Napa that hasn’t been said a million times over? It is a long, narrow valley that has the world’s finest restaurants, stunning architecture and breathtaking views. And what you will find in this bottle is derived from the very essence of this incredible region... a wine of artistry, luxury and pure excellence. Presenting, the 2018 treble clef Napa Valley Chardonnay. Start by observing the color. Hold up your glass to the light and notice the deep middle, as well as how it slightly changes as it nears the rim. Being a 2018, it is such a newbie in terms of wine years and the color is reflective of its youth. Notice its brightness as it displays vivid light straw and gold hues. But look closer and see the tinge of green apple, a characteristic that is very Napa-like. It looks like fine jewelry in your glass. A welcoming and great start. Time to take in the aromas. They are so incredibly inviting and truly captivating. Slight vanilla and oak come first followed by rich tropical fruits. But breath deeper and search for that white floral note peeking its head out. It is there for those that are patient. What a beautiful surprise and elegant addition to the bouquet! Ok, with such a dramatic buildup I feel as if you need to taste it asap. Go ahead. Pure elegance might be your first perception. This wine has a great feel in your mouth with a framework of vanilla bean that shares the spotlight with green apple and amazing ripe tropical fruits like papaya and mango. Notice the mellow acidity, but there is enough there to add great texture. What might surprise you is this is not a heavily oaked wine, as the winemaker clearly wanted the amazing Napa fruit qualities to shine through. When grapes are this good, you don’t want the oak to overpower all the great nuances. If you were wondering, THIS is what a luxury Chardonnay tastes like… from a part of the world that defines the very essence of luxury.

Cheers – Eric

ARTWORK & DESIGN

Label Design: Mindi Abair

I’ve been playing music since I was five years old and writing it since I was 8 years old. I’ve probably drawn 5,000 treble clefs throughout my life. I handwrite all the charts to my songs for my band, and I’ve done this my whole life. Every writer has his or her signature treble clef. For those of you who aren’t a total music dork like I am, a treble clef is the sign for everything in the upper register of music. The only person in my band that reads anything but treble clef is my bass player, who reads bass clef. The treble clef is what I play in as a saxophonist and sing in as a singer. It’s where I live. When I first tasted this wine, I noticed it had such high fruit tones in every sip. It’s was bright and beautiful, and the treble clef immediately came to mind, personifying everything this wine-style was about. It reminds me of music with high instruments leading the way, like saxophone, mandolin or high vocal harmonies. It is a perfect match. Sitting atop a pure white, textured label with an unassuming staff in the background, the gold treble clef on the front label is mine… I drew it… it’s the same one I’ve written on every piece of music my whole life.

MUSIC

Eric thinks in wine terms and gets geeky with his tasting notes. I think of everything in terms of music and sound. I’ve chosen songs for this playlist that exemplify that high register. Every song has instruments or vocals that play in the treble clef. They all have a bright, light feeling that pairs perfectly with this wine. Turn it up, sip and enjoy!
