The mighty Zinfandel… the only grape that California can tout as its very own. This is a wine that is responsible for countless legendary winery stories like Ridge, Ravenswood and Rosenblum. And, it has a groupie following equal to any huge rockstar.

Yes, this is another first for W+J as we continue to explore other fine wine regions. Kelsey Bench in Lake County CA is an exceptional place because it combines unique volcanic soils with a high elevation, which create ideal growing conditions. It enjoys plenty of sunlight, which helps develop rich, concentrated flavors in the fruit, while the cooler night temperatures influenced by the nearby lake preserve the grapes’ natural acidity. This balance results in wines that are both robust and well-structured, with a distinctive minerality and depth that reflect the terroir of the area.

This very special wine enjoys the pedigree and characteristics of a true Lake County Zinfandel. The color is a dark royal purple fit for a king. The aromas are warm and of ripe black cherry with a small amount of white pepper lingering about. All of this is perfection, and the taste is what really stopped us in our tracks. It is full bodied with driving bold tannins that are big but not obtrusive. The ripe black cherry integrates beautifully with the density of this wine, all weaved masterfully together with the white pepper spice only found in Lake County. It finishes with a great surprise, vanilla bean cream offered up by the kiss of American Oak.

This wine is nothing short of a true rugged Outlaw!
