The mighty Zinfandel… the only grape that California can tout as its very own. This is a wine that is responsible for countless legendary winery stories like Ridge, Ravenswood and Rosenblum. And, it has a groupie following equal to any huge rockstar.
Though grown all over California, its true home is in the narrow and hot Dry Creek Valley, Northern Sonoma. I lived on the doorstep of this region for many years and have spent countless hours either jogging amongst the historic vineyards or riding my Harley past the vast valley of Zinfandel grapes. This place is special to me.
After tasting dozens of wines, we finally found one with the pedigree and characteristics that a true Zinfandel possesses. The color is a dark royal purple fit for a king. The aromas are warm and of ripe black cherry with just a small amount of white pepper lingering about. All of this is perfection, but the taste is what really sold us. Full bodied with driving bold tannins that are big but not too obtrusive. The ripe black cherry is just so beautifully integrated with the density of this wine, all weaved masterfully together with the white pepper spice only found in Dry Creek Valley. It finishes with a great surprise; vanilla bean cream offered up by the kiss of American Oak.
A tall pillar amongst its peers, this Zinfandel represents its homeland and heritage perfectly.

This is a wine label…
With this design, you might say we took an unorthodox approach, however we thought it was very fitting for this unique grape that is Zinfandel. When it was introduced to the wine lover years ago, the style was unlike any other fine wine, yet it established a joyous connection with a captivated audience that quickly became this incredible reciprocating relationship. As this group of followers bought more Zinfandel, the wineries prospered and happily offered even more Zinfandel back to them in a joyous ever-revolving connection between wine lover and the wineries. In a word, joy really defined it perfectly as both sides needed each other.
In this spirit, we took a step back from the traditional wine label approach and wrote a fun open letter to you, our beloved Wine + Music members, exploring that special joyous relationship we have together. Also, what I really love about this label design is how it speaks to the style of this Zinfandel, which is uniquely real yet so very special in the relationship it has created with its followers over the years.
Pour a big glass and have fun reading through our little open letter to you. We hope it brings you as much joy as you have given to us as we pursue our lifelong endeavors in Wine + Music.
